  • Government Funded and Government Restored Parks:  When the government wants a park to be restored, it sometimes takes the initiative and goes out with a set amount of money given agencies and restores the area(s) itself. This ensures that the park is properly and fully restored, but hinders community involvement. The lack of community involvement in urban communities is not beneficial to cohesiveness and also discourages members of the neighborhood from taking action and advocating for the cleanliness and upkeep of their local parks.

  • Government Funded and Community Restored: It is necessary in Urban communities for the government to take a step back and allow the residents of a community to act as self-advocates and take care of their parks. Therefore, the government sometimes provides funding for community agencies to assist in the restoration of a local park. The community members are expected to take initiative and lead the refurbishment of their community.

  • Encouraging Involvement Through Youth Education:  Sometimes the best way to encourage involvement is through education. Getting youth of urban communities involved results in the further participation of the larger local population. Often times, schools do not provide adequate learning materials on the environment and civic participation which results in ignorance and lack of interest. Educational and community oriented agencies sometimes take the initiative to provide the urban youth with the proper environmental education to better prepare them to advocate for themselves and their communities.
