Policy Options / Model Programs   specific policies or program models, grouped by type, that are profiled

  • Currently, most NJ residents pay a small fee on their electrical bill called the Societal Benefits Charge.
  • The SBC is a per kWh/therm charge that equates to approximately 3.8% of a customer's energy bill.8
  • Currently, an average residential electric utility customer using 8,700 kWh annually contributes approximately $56.8
  • Since the inception of the Clean Energy Program in 2001 and through 2010, $1.2 billion has been expended to support New Jersey's Clean Energy Program.8
  • I would like to increase this charge, and use the extra money raised from it to subsidize the cost of building a new nuclear power plant.
  • Keep the ban on nuclear power because of its high costs.
  • Invest in cheaper energy solutions that are also cleaner and safer, such as wind and solar.
