Goal Statement   one sentence that further defines the topic

  •  To enhance the quality of life for individuals with developmental disabilities by providing  and increasing employment opportunities and work related experiences designed  to meet the specific needs of the employer.

Policy Options / Model Programs   specific policies or program models, grouped by type, that are profiled

  • People with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities will be employed in their communities, without any discrimination involved. They should be supported to make informed choices about their work and careers and have the resources to seek, obtain, and be successful in integrated community employment. No one is left behind and every person with this disability will have the same work opportunities as anyone else in the community. There will be equal amount of hours, pay and work for all persons with disabilities who are working.

  • The Federal Government along with State and local Government must invest more funding and initiatives to enhance systems to assist individuals with developmental disabilities in becoming employed in community businesses. Some improvement has been made by awarding grants to states to enable a shift from facility-based, sheltered workshops to community-based, supported employment services for individuals with developmental disabilities. The communities must realize that it is important to support individuals with developmental disabilities, this will benefit the businesses as well. I would like to see more business participate in programs that provide resources in supporting people with developmental disabilities.
